Coastal Carolina University welcomes parents and other family members (3 guests maximum per student) at
our Freshman and Transfer Orientation programs. Parent Orientation is designed
to acquaint the family members of students with University programs and
services.
Parents sign-up to attend the same Orientation session as their student.
For parents of freshmen, this session will last two days. For parents of
transfers, it will last one day. Parents will attend some sessions with
their students and other sessions with just parents.
Freshmen are required to stay on campus one night at Orientation. Local hotels that offer special rates for parents attending Orientation are:

Day One 9 to 10:15 a.m. Orientation Check-in During this time, you can check-in at Orientation, get your residence hall room assignment, visit the Coastal Carolina University Bookstore, and take care of any final business with campus offices and departments. 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Welcome 11 a.m. to 12 noon Academic College Meetings Meet the dean/leader of your college or academic program and learn about academic expectations for Coastal freshmen and what’s new for Fall 2008. 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. Lunch 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. The Financial Aspects Learn about the financial aid process and discover how and when to pay your student’s tuition and other college expenses. Information will also be available on the Bookstore and the CINO card. 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Freshman Year Experience for Parents! Learn how you can help your student adjust to this new and challenging environment and what student services are available to meet students’ needs. Find out what Coastal is doing to make your student’s first year successful. 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Residence Life and Commuter Student Life Learn about University residence hall life and policies or how to stay informed about campus activities and meet other commuters. 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Residence Hall Key Distribution and Move-in Students can obtain their residence hall room keys and drop off luggage. Say goodbye to your student until tomorrow! Day Two 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Continental Breakfast and Info Fair Representatives from a variety of on and off-campus services, including local banks, will be available to answer questions. 9:45 to 10 a.m. Academic Policies Learn about academic policies and procedures. 10 to 10:30 a.m. Campus Safety Learn how students can keep themselves and their belongings safe on Coastal’s Campus. 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Academic Department Meetings Meet the department chair of your student’s major. Learn about academic courses, graduation requirements, and special opportunities in your student’s field of study.

Information will also be available on the Bookstore and the CINO card. 12 noon to 1 p.m. Lunch 1 to 2 p.m. Student Services and Campus Technology Learn how you can help your student adjust to this new and challenging environment and what student services are available to meet students’ needs. Computer requirements will also be discussed and how to get your student hooked up to the Internet.
