Image of Football GameCoastal Carolina University competes in the NCAA Division I level (NCAA Division I-AA for football) and is a charter member of the Big South Conference. Coastal student-athletes play hard, compete nationally and succeed in the classroom.

In recent years, baseball, softball, women's track and field, men's golf and men's soccer have produced several All-American performers, including the top scorer in men's soccer and one of the top female collegiate hammer throwers in the nation. Since1991, Coastal Carolina University has made more than 48 NCAA Championship appearances and has won 56 Big South Conference Championships.

Image of CheeringIn 2004-05, Coastal Carolina captured the Big South's Sasser Cup for a conference- record seventh time. The Sasser Cup is awarded annually to the institution with the most successful athletic program. Six Chanticleer squads earned Big South Championships in 2004-05 (football, men's soccer, women's cross country, women's outdoor track, men's golf and women's golf), while four teams qualified for the NCAA championships (men's soccer, men's golf, women's golf and base- for the NCAA championships (men's soccer, men's golf, women's golf and baseball). Three student-athletes were also named Big South Scholar-Athletes of the Year ball). Three student-athletes were also named Big South Scholar-Athletes of the Year and seven coaches received Big South Coach of the Year honors.

  • The Big South champion baseball team made its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, earning the league's first-ever No. 1 National seeding in any sport in the Tempe Regional.
  • The men's soccer team won its fourth consecutive trip The men's soccer team won its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Men's soccer had two players to the NCAA Tournament. Men's soccer had two players drafted in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
  • The men's golf team advanced to the NCAA • The men's golf team advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in school and league Championship for the first time in school and league history after finishing eighth at the NCAA East Regional.
  • Men's pole vaulter Mark Johnson earned All- Men's pole vaulter Mark Johnson earned All- American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
  • The football team won the Big South Conference The football team won the Big South Conference Championship in just its second year of play, finishing at 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action and ranking in 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action and ranking in the top 25 of three major national polls.

  • Six baseball players were drafted in Major League Baseball's First-Year Draft, including Mike Costanzo drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
