Students who choose Coastal Carolina University are not only choosing a place
to continue their education, they are also choosing a new home for the
next four years. College students spend more time in their residence halls
than in any other place on campus, and Coastal Carolina strives to provide
students with the services they need to feel comfortable and safe so they
can concentrate on their education. The Coastal Carolina residence halls
are also the place to be to make new friends, develop an appreciation
and respect for differences, and learn important skills that will help
you develop successful personal and professional relationships throughout
your life.
Residence Life Options
Coastal Carolina maintains 31 residence halls
which house approximately 2,200 students.
Students choosing to live in an on-campus
residence hall can select from the following
room styles:
Double-occupancy
suites compose most of the available rooms in The Rivers residence halls
(Santee and Waccamaw), which are reserved exclusively for new freshmen.
Each room houses two students who share a semi-private bathroom with the two students living in the
adjacent room.
Quad-occupancy suites are available in limited numbers in The Rivers
and compose all rooms in The Woods complex (Oak, Cypress, Maple, Dogwood,
Elm and Palmetto Halls). The Woods rooms are available to freshmen, returning
and transfer students. Students who live in a quad suite each have their
own bedroom but share a semiprivate bathroom and common area.
Apartment-style
rooms make up The Gardens Halls (Azalea and Magnolia) and are available
to freshmen, returning and transfer students. These rooms are one-bedroom
apartments and also feature a bathroom, common area and kitchen.
The University also manages and staffs
University Place, an apartment complex located
approximately one-half mile from the main
campus that is available to upperclass and
transfer students. University Place offers a
combination of two and four-bedroom “garden
style” apartments. The complex also features an
Activity House equipped with an exercise and
fitness facility, pool/hot tub, community room fitness facility, pool/hot tub, community room
with wide screen TV, half basketball court and
full sand volleyball court.
Campus Services
For all residents, the University offers furnishings, local telephone service, Internet access, laundry facilities, mail service, parking, dining services and 24-hour security.
Special Interest Housing Want
to live with other students who share a special interest? Coastal Carolina
also offers a number of special interest housing options each year for
new freshmen. If you are interested in learning leadership skills, taking
part in outdoor adventures or getting immersed in the ocean, you can elect
to live with other freshmen who share these same interests. Housing themes
vary each year, but all groups are led by a faculty or staff adviser and
feature a variety of special programs and activities.
Residence Hall Activities
Sometimes it’s hard to meet new people and find your
own niche, so the residence life staff stays busy planning
programs and events. At the beginning of the year, there
are lots of “get to know you” activities and educational
programming about issues such as alcohol and campus
safety. Once the campus is in full swing, the fun stuff just
keeps coming. Here are some of the students’ (and staff’s)
favorites:
- Movie Nights
- Game Nights
- Intramural Sports
- The Rivers Carnival
- Trick or Treat (all the community children are invited)
- Gardenstock (food, music and lots of tie-dye)
- Bar-B-Qs
- Pool Parties
