Organizations such as the Artist Society and the AIGA are student-led and faculty-mentored groups that give students a chance to bond and learn outside of class in activities that they choose and organize.

AIGA, the professional association for design, is the premier place for designers”to discover it, discuss it, understand it, appreciate it, be inspired by it. It is the place designers turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis, and research and advance education and ethical practices. AIGA sets the national agenda for the role of design in its economic, social, political, cultural and creative contexts. Founded in 1914, AIGA remains the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design. AIGA now represents more than 20,000 design professionals, educators and students through national activities and local programs developed by 64 chapters and 200 student groups.

The purpose of the Student Artist Society is to provide a community for art students outside of the class setting, and to provide opportunities for trips to see art exhibitions, exhibitions of student work, and to bring lecturers to campus. The latter two will also serve as a means of outreach to the community at large.
