Department of Visual Arts

Our student body is growing quickly...by fall 2012 we will have over 300 majors. The Department of Visual Arts is large enough to be a diverse and challenging environment, and small enough to allow for one-on-one interaction with faculty and close-knit classroom experiences.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Graphic Design students started their own AIGA chapter in 2008. With a rich calendar of guest speakers, events, exhibitions, and publications the AIGA is the place for graphic design students.

Art Studio majors started the Student Artist Society in 2009. The club sponsors a speaker series, fundraisers, trips to other cities and museums, exhibitions, and various events to prepare students for graduate school or a career in art.

STUDENTS & ON-CAMPUS OPPORTUNITIES
For students who exemplify independence and motivation, as well as talent, there are many opportunites to get professional-level experience before leaving CCU. The Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery offers work-study and internship experiences. Award-winning University publications such as Tapestry, Archarios, Tempo, and The Chanticleer newspaper give students the opportunity to publish their work, and to design professional quality magazine while getting paid. Additionally, students are able to gain experience through the Pre-Professional Studio (ARTD 440/ARTS 440).

STUDENT CAREERS
Art Studio and Graphic Design majors have interned at the Burroughs & Chapin Art Museum, Brookgreen Gardens, the Penland Craft Center, the New York Print Institute, as well as corporations, small businesses, entertainment venues, and non-profits from South Carolina to New York City.
