Activities
The Biddle Center sponsors numerous programs and activities in an effort to fulfill its mission. Examples of Center activities include:
- Spadoni College of Education Ethics Symposium
The Ethics Symposium is held annually reinforcing the importance of educators at all levels holding high ethical standards in their work. Symposium speakers have included the late Dr. Asa Grant Hilliard, III, Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Urban Education, Georgia State University; Dr. Betty Siegel, past President, Kennesaw State University; Dr. Samuel Betances, Souder, Betances & Associates; and Dr. James Banks, Director, Center for Multicultural Education, University of Washington.
- Spadoni College of Education Business/Education Forum
Recognizing the importance of working together to provide quality education in schools today, the College sponsors the Business/Education Forum for leaders from the business and education communities to learn more about best practice in collaboration to strengthen schools and meet societal expectations.
Ask the Faculty is an online directory identifying expertise, research, and scholarship of College faculty. The directory provides easy access to a wide range of faculty resources through the Biddle Center website.
Research Briefs provides research-based information on important and high-interest topics for educators in short and focused papers. Research Briefs may be accessed through the Biddle Center website.
- Reflective Teacher Research and Scholarship Group
The Biddle Center sponsors the Reflective Teacher Research and Scholarship Group to assist and support faculty in their scholarship so that they, in turn, may make important contributions to their fields of specialization. Faculty in the Group meet on a regular basis to explore meaningful scholarship and to support each other in their research.
- Specialized Graduate Study for Educators
The importance of ongoing professional growth and development for teachers and other school personnel is without question. Recognizing this, the Biddle Center coordinates the offering of specially arranged graduate study by the College for school districts and other agencies.
- Summer Principal’s Induction Institute
Working with the South Carolina Department of Education, the Biddle Center assists in the delivery of the Summer Principal’s Induction Institute. The Institute is offered to help beginning principals better understand their roles and responsibilities as academic leaders and to assist them in successfully meeting this challenge.
