The Biology Program

The Department of Biology offers a broadly based degree that includes the following components:

1. Core Curriculum (49 credits)

2. Major requirements (31-32 credits)

3. Foundation Courses (24 credits)

4. General Electives (15-16 credits)

A total of 120 credits are required for graduation.

A description of the degree requirements can be found in the online catalog. An advising worksheet is also useful for tracking progress toward the degree. The form can be found on our forms page. Click here to go to the forms page.

Many career paths are possible with a degree in biology. After completing the undergraduate degree students go on to graduate school, medical school, dental school, or veterinary school. Completion of the first two years at Coastal prepares students for transfer to a School of Pharmacy or to a School of Allied Health Sciences. Students interested in teaching can enter the Master of Arts in Teaching Program. Other career opportunities include work with government agencies or with private industry. Careful and continual advising ensures that each student takes the appropriate courses for the chosen career path.
