On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Coastal Carolina University.  

Founded in 1954 on a dream that was fueled with tenacity and character, this University has provided countless opportunities and possibilities for students who have come from down the street and around the world. On its surface, the University appears vastly different each passing year as it expands to serve record numbers of students and opens new buildings and spaces for students to learn and live. Yet, in many ways, the University is amazingly similar to its humble beginnings serving an entering class of 53 students. The values that led to the establishment of the "college" nearly 60 years ago remain central to our goals today: to promote academic opportunity and excellence, and focus our resources toward quality, relevance and accountability.  

It was an honor to become a member of this board in 2009 and humbling to be selected to lead the board in 2011, especially as a proud alumnus whose life has been dramatically shaped by this University.  I know first-hand of the soul of Coastal Carolina University – its character and commitment toward a bold future for generations of students to come.

I look forward to the work ahead with the members of the Board of Trustees and President DeCenzo and his administration as all of us seek ways to better serve the students, alumni, faculty, staff and many friends of this University.
