The Mission Statement
The mission of the Rebecca Randall Bryan
Gallery is a center for the presentation of the visual arts in northeastern,
SC by having a regionally significant exhibition and research program
in support of the educational mission of Coastal Carolina University.
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery is a program of Coastal Carolina University.
The gallery is a non-profit making institution, in the service
of society and its
development and open to the public. The gallery is committed to researching,
exhibiting and interpreting, for the purpose of study, education, and enjoyment
of objects, activities and documents that are part of the focus of visual
arts.
The Mandate Statement The discipline concerning the Rebecca Bryan
Gallery will be the visual arts. Within this field the program
will recognize no restrictions as to the nature of its research
and programs relative to period, medium or the content approach
of the art or artists. The geographic scope of the Rebecca Bryan
Gallery will focus on art and artists from the Eastern United States,
but will not exclude art and artists from other parts of the world.
Art in the collections of sister institutions and those of private
collectors within this geographic scope will also fall under the
purview of the Rebecca Bryan Gallery program. Provisions will allow
for the exceptional special exhibitions from outside the region
to be presented at the facility as well.
Purpose
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery shall operate
under the following definition and shall observe all the professional
and ethical standards as defined in the International Council
of Museum's Statutes of Professional Ethics concerning its programs,
staff, governance and fiscal management consistent with the guidelines
established by Coastal Caroline University and the Coastal Carolina
University Board of Directors and the School of Humanities Board
of Visitors.
Concept Plan:
The concept plan
will aim to articulate the mission, mandate and purpose into
a program plan that will outline how the gallery will accomplish
its objectives.
The following functions will be the program plan of the gallery
Research
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery is responsible
to all objects committed to its care and will take all reasonable
steps to ensure for the purposes of communication, their identification
and interpretation and for the purposes of preservation their
safety, security and conservation of objects entrusted to the
gallery.
Display
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery will present
six to eight exhibitions annually.
The programs of the Rebecca Bryan Gallery shall strive to represent and serve
a broad range of audiences and cultures.
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery should aim to introduce the public to a broad spectrum
of art forms and traditions in both the fine arts and decorative arts, with
selections from both historic and contemporary periods, and should also display
and promote work for regional artists, crafts persons and other works of art
of local interest.
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery
should provide and manage touring exhibitions to appropriate locations (art
galleries, community art centers, and local museums) through out its geographic
region.
Interpretation & Education
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery will support the exhibitions with publications, lectures,
symposia and workshops.
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery will attempt to provide educational programs to elementary,
secondary schools and colleges within its immediate geographic region.
Promotion
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery is responsible
for the promotion and publication of research relating to its programs.
The Rebecca Bryan Gallery shall seek to maximize communication with all of
its publics including artists, Coastal Carolina University students, faculty,
staff and administrators, the surrounding community, media, and donors. The
Gallery shall use gallery publications, evaluations, outreach programs, interpretive
programs, news releases and promotional materials as channels to communicate
with its identified publics. |
