Economics is the study of how individuals, firms and countries choose among alternatives. Many successful individuals such as Ronald Reagan, Ted Turner, Sandra Day-O’Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a degree in economics. The new economics major and minor at Coastal Carolina University give students the opportunity to explore and develop an understanding of the American and world economies.

• Economics graduates have many career opportunities with firms, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Economics graduates often obtain lucrative jobs in financial services, banking, government, healthcare, real estate and international organizations. In fact, more Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Fortune 500 firms majored in economics than any other discipline.
• Undergraduate training in economics provides excellent preparation for graduate work in economics, business administration, law, public administration and medicine. Economics major, for instance, consistently have the highest average test score on the Law School Aptitude Test (LSAT).
• Economics allows students develop critical thinking that helps them better understand the world around them. Understanding economics can help individuals make better decisions in their personal and professional lives.
