As our trip dwindled down to its last days, from the corners of Munich and Prague, we reunited in Bratislava, Slovakia. We stayed in the Über retro Hotel Kyjev, which was walking distance from the Old Town. Upon our arrival, we enjoyed a delicious Slovak dinner, “non-hostel” living accommodations, and showers you couldn’t quite stand-up in. The following morning we were met with our most interactive business visit to the Coca-Cola Slovakia Headquarters. We learned how Slovakia’s admission to the EU expanded Coca-Cola’s business opportunities, but more memorable were the neon green vests and hats we wore and the reject bottle souvenirs we took home.
In our short time there, we managed to squeeze in a visit to the University of Economics Bratislava where we were greeted with friendly Slovak students and treated to a beer at the school’s outdoor bar. The following day our Slovak friends showed some of us key sights around the city including Bratislava Castle, Michael’s Gate, and the president’s home (located right in front of a subway stop). Although this was a quick stop on our trip, we still got a balanced bite of new and old Bratislava and how the two are fusing together, making it one of the world’s top must-see transformed cities.
