Wall Center for Excellence Seminar Curriculum

Class size is limited to 30 students in each seminar.

Smart Choices: Taking Charge. Achieving Success.

Description: Success is achieved one choice at a time. This workshop, with a strong emphasis on the teachings of Stephen Covey, introduces essential life management skills to ensure that students appropriately manage their time in order to accomplish their long-term goals.

Topics include:

  • Seven areas of human wellness (educational, emotional, financial, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual)
  • Managing your “whole self” (mind, body, heart, and spirit)
  • The “Smart Choice” principles: Protect the Rooster, take ownership, it’s about you, it’s about others, prioritize activities, eat the frog, persevere
  • Transforming dreams into measurable goals and actionable strategies
  • The Pareto principle and effective time management
  • Please note: The “Smart Choices” workshop is a required activity for all students enrolled in UNIV 110B: The First Year Experience.



    Pre-requisite: This is a 90 - 120 minute workshop with no pre-requisites.


    It’s About Time: Value-Centered Life Management

    Description: This workshop builds upon the concepts introduced in the “Smart Choices” workshop with an emphasis on increasing self-awareness and the further refinement of time management skills.

    Specific topics include:

  • Developing a personal mission statement
  • Understanding emotional intelligence
  • Focusing on your strengths
  • Developing a task list; prioritizing activities
  • Utilizing Microsoft Outlook
  • Scheduling and evaluating the “fixed” activities
  • Scheduling “productive” and “variable” time


  • Pre-requisite: Successful completion of the "Smart Choices" workshop. This is a 90 - 120 minute workshop.


    Delivering Results!

    Delivering Results! is a 45 - 60 minute discussion during which students share their successes and express the challenges of implementing the Smart Choices philosophy in their daily lives. The meeting is a round-table discussion, facilitated by the Wall Center for Excellence staff, designed to support students in their effort to Deliver Results!

    Session are held at the following times each week during the semester:

  • Tuesday, 3:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 1:00 p.m.
  • Advance registration is not required. All sessions are held in the Wall Center for Excellence Boardroom.



    Pre-requisite: Smart Choices workshop


    Educational Testing Service (E.T.S.) Examination

    All Wall College of Business students enrolled in Strategic Management (CBAD 478) are required to complete a comprehensive examination, which assesses their knowledge and skills across all business disciplines. This exam is a key tool in assessing the quality and rigor of the Wall College degree programs. The examination is administered online in a University computer lab to ensure a controlled environment. Students should allow two (2) hours to complete the exam.

    Pre-requisite: Currently enrolled in CBAD 478, Strategic Management

    Marketing Your Success... Launching Your Career!

    During this 90 - 120 minute session, students will be introduced to Resume Builder, Coastal Carolina University,s online resume database system and how to build an effective resume within the system. Chants JOBLink and other sources of leads on employment and internship opportunities will be introduced to students. Finally, the session will provide students with guidance on preparing for a successful employment interview.

    Delivering on multi-phase team projects: The CBAD 478 Strategic Management Consulting Project

    This seminar is focused on helping students to proactively manage multi-phase team projects with an emphasis on adopting successful processes to deliver on effective task outcomes. Come to learn about the requirements of the project for CBAD 478 Strategic Management and to exchange ideas about successful processes to work effectively through a team project that has multiple deliverables throughout the semester. As a part of ongoing continuous improvement efforts, the strategy faculty have just redesigned the Consulting Project and its supporting assignments. This workshop has 4 takeaways:

  • An overview of successful group processes to engender effective and A-level team outcomes;
  • A thorough understanding of how the handbook is related to the consulting project deliverables;
  • A practical exposure to the work and its sequencing to accomplish the project in the most efficient manner while maintaining high quality standards;
  • A practical guide to the tools and tricks in providing a digital version of the project.


  • Pre-requisite: Students must be currently enrolled in Strategic Management (CBAD 478) and the team leader for assignment #1.
