Each season, Coastal Carolina University demonstrates its
commitment to the cultural arts by offering a diverse schedule
of public events. The International Culture series on September 25th, October 16th, and November 6th have been selected as approved PDAs for the fall semester. These series focus on international cultures and travel. Programming will include films, discussions and activities to offer critical and cultural perspectives on each region. The session on September 25th will focus on India and will feature the film, Monsoon Wedding. The film centers around the planning and celebrations of a traditional arranged marriage for affluent families in complicated situations. Monsoon Wedding depicts several conflicts, including socioeconomic, love, tradition, globalization, child abuse, financial, and homosexuality. Throughout the movie, the viewer witnesses the overt contrasts between the upper and lower classes within India. During the session on November 6th you will have the opportunity to learn about Ecuadorian Culture from our international students and American students who have returned from studying abroad in Ecuador! Music and food will also be available. On November 11th there will be a showing of the documentary, Kicking It (2008)--narrated by Colin Farrell and directed by Susan Koch and Jeff Werner. Focusing on the lives of people from nearby Charlotte, North Carolina to as far away as Afghanistan and Russia, the film documents the story of the Homeless World cup which strives to change the lives of homeless people from around the world through an international soccer tournament.
