Color may be the single most important element in any purchase. It is a prime motivating factor. 60% of a persons selection when purchasing an item is based on its color. Color registers with the viewer/audience/consumer subconsciously. Understanding how color can motivate or repel a consumer is vitally important in business and marketing. This presentation will introduce you to color psychology and will enable you to understand the power of color. The PDA will be delivered by Steven Bleicher, Professor of Visual Arts. Mr. Bleicher is the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and a tenured professor in the Visual Arts Department at Coastal Carolina University. He received both his BFA and MFA from Pratt Institute. Steven has worked and taught at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, the State University of New York, Brooklyn College and the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in addition to serving as the Assistant Dean of the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
In April 2012, Cengage Press and Thompson Learning published the second edition of Steven’s book Contemporary Color, Theory and Use. It is a comprehensive text on color, focusing on digital color and its relationship to other new technologies as well as traditional color theory. Other chapters include color psychology, perception and a new chapter on global color. Steven is also currently writing a book tentatively titled Art And Design Foundations, which is scheduled for publication next year.
Steven has been a visiting lecturer and consultant on color psychology at numerous universities and corporations including the University of North Florida, Tilson Communications and Staples, Inc. This has also included being a guest contributor to the television program, Today in South Florida for a series of segments on using color effectively.
