Scholarships

 

Wendell and Lucille Calhoun Hinson Endowed Scholarship (New and continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted full time as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Student must be enrolled in a major in the Wall College of Business or the Spadoni College of Education;

3. Must be a native resident (born and raised) of Horry or Georgetown County;

4. Must maintain full-time status and demonstrate satisfactory degree progress;

5. Submit application and additional requirements as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

The scholarship award amount varies annually and is dependent upon funding. The award is for one year and may be renewed as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0 and completes 30 credit hours annually. However, renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

 

Wayland H. Cato Jr. – Theresa Roberts Gebhardt Endowed Scholarship (New or continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be a business major;

3. Must have financial need*; defined as students whose income exceeds government assistance criteria, but who can demonstrate a quantifiable need for assistance. Financial need shall be determined by the school by evaluating family factors (e.g. family household income, number of family members, number of family members in institutions of higher learning and the ability of the family to contribute) and other types of eligible assistance (including federal and state funds, as well as other institutionally controlled scholarship funds received by the students) in relationship to the student’s and the student’s family’s total cost for the student to attend school;

4. Maintain at least part-time status and demonstrate satisfactory degree progress;

5. Submit application and additional requirements as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

Preference will be given to students who show evidence, either in the past or at the present time, of having demonstrated a commitment to a strong work ethic through meaningful work experience in the public or private sector, and a commitment to volunteerism through meaningful community service without compensation.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the Wall Board of Visitors Scholarship Committee which may include a representative of the donor. This committee will provide a ranking of applicants to the University Scholarship Committee and the University Scholarship Committee will make the final selection.

 

Coastal Network Cooperative (CNC) Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Matt Harper (Continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate, degree-seeking student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must major in Resort Tourism Management;

3. Must have completed at least 60 credit hours with a minimum cumulative collegiate GPA of 3.0;

4. Must demonstrate satisfactory degree progress;

5. Submit application and additional requirements as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the faculty affiliated with the Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism. This committee will provide a ranking of applicants to the University Scholarship Committee and the University Scholarship Committee will make the final selection.

 

Conway National Bank Annual Scholarship (Continuing students)

 To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at CCU;

2. Student must major in business or computer science;

3. Must be a Conway National Bank customer;

4. Must maintain a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 2.5;

5. Must be an Horry County high school graduate;

6. Applicant must be a junior at the time of the award, but previous recipients may apply for renewal;

7. Demonstrate satisfactory degree progress;

8. Submit application and additional requirements as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. The award is for one year and may be renewed for a second year. However, renewal of this scholarship is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

 

Dr. Robert C. Elvington Alumni Board Endowed Scholarship (New or continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be majoring in a business field through the Wall College of Business or teacher education field through the Spadoni College of Education;

3. Incoming freshman must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA;

4. New transfer students must have a minimum cumulative collegiate GPA of 2.75;

5. Continuing students must have a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 2.75;

6. Financial need*, as defined by Financial Aid & Scholarships, will be reviewed;

7. Maintain full-time status and demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

 8. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

* FAFSA for the upcoming academic year must be completed by March 1 to determine financial need.

*Preference will be given to graduates of Aynor high school; however if no qualified applicant exists, a qualified applicant from any of the regular Horry County public schools may be considered for this award.

The primary determinant of the scholarship shall be “merit” with “need” playing a secondary role. The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. These awards vary annually and are for one year. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. The Board of Directors of the Alumni Association will review applications and recommend the successful recipient to The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

 

First Federal Annual Scholarships (Continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be in their junior or senior academic year;

3. Must be enrolled in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration;

4. Must maintain a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0;

5. Must reside in any of the following counties: Horry, Georgetown, Florence, Beaufort, Charleston, Berkeley or Dorchester, South Carolina, OR Brunswick County, North Carolina;

6. Demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

7. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. This is a one-time award and is not renewable. Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

 

 Will and Audrey Garland Alumni Board Endowed Scholarship (New or Continuing students)

The Will and Audrey Garland Alumni Board Endowed Scholarship fund supports two scholarships. Available funding for the award each year shall be divided equally between a scholarship for a non-traditional student and a scholarship for a traditional student.

To be eligible to apply for the traditional student scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Applicant must be a traditional student under 22 years old;

3. New freshmen must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0;

4. New transfers must have a minimum cumulative collegiate GPA of 3.0;

5. Continuing students must have a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0;

6. The scholarship is intended for a graduate of Aynor High School. However if there is no qualified applicant from Aynor High School, then the scholarship committee may, at its sole discretion, give the award to another qualified applicant who is a graduate of another regular Horry County public school (excluding any charter school);

7. Must be majoring in a business field through the Wall College of Business Administration or a teacher education field through the Spadoni College of Education;

8. Must demonstrate financial need* as defined by The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships;

9. Must demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

10. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide

The Haberdashery of Conway Endowed Scholarship (New or continuing students)

To be eligible to apply for the traditional student scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be enrolled in a business program in the Wall College of Business;

3. Must demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

*Preference will be given to students who are graduates of Conway High School and who are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. The initial awards are for one year; recipients may apply for renewal however, renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed. A recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

 

Grand Strand Chapter of South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (New or continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be majoring in accounting.

*Preference will be given to students who are meeting the following criteria:

1. A South Carolina resident; with emphasis given to Horry/Georgetown County residents;

2. Have earned at least 30 credit hours with a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0;

3. Have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA in business/accounting courses;

4. Demonstrates financial need* as defined by The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships;

5. Demonstrates satisfactory degree progress.

6. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

Fred W. Hicks III Scholarship in Finance (Continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be a finance major within the Wall College of Business Administration;

3. Must be a rising senior;

4. Must demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

5.  Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

 Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association of PGA Golf Management Annual Scholarship (New or continuing students)

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted as an undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must major in a degree program within the Wall College of Business;

3. Must participate in the PGA Golf Management Program;

4. Freshman applicants must score at least 1,100 on the SAT or at least 24 on the ACT. Must also have a high school GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

5. All other applicants must have completed at least 30 credits hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0) scale;

6. Maintain full-time status throughout the term of the scholarship and demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

7. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. The award is for one year. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. The Director of the PGA Golf Management Program will review applications and recommend the successful recipient to the University Scholarship Committee.

 

 Ray L. Miller Scholarship (Continuing or new transfer students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full time as an undergraduate student at CCU;

2. Must be majoring in Accounting through the Wall College of Business Administration;

3. Must maintain a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0;

4. Must have fifty-four or more credit hours earned;

5. Must be actively involved with academic clubs as well as other community based activities that enhance the quality of life for all;

6. Demonstrate satisfactory degree progress; 

7. Submit application and additional requirements as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

*Preference will be given to out-of-state applicants.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. Out-of-state recipients will receive a monetary award and a University tuition waiver to pay in-state tuition rates. Out-of-state tuition waiver(s) may not exceed the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. The award is for one year. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. Applications will be reviewed by the Accounting/Finance/Economic faculty who will recommend the successful recipient to the University Scholarship Committee.

 

Clyde W. Port Endowed Scholarship of the Wall Board of Visitors (Continuing students)

 To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a current full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student at Coastal Carolina University;

2. Must be enrolled in a program in The Wall College of Business;

3. Demonstrate satisfactory degree progress;

*Preference will be given to students from Horry County;

4. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

 

The scholarship is to be a “merit” scholarship. The scholarship may be multiple awards as determined by the Wall Board of Visitors Scholarship Committee. Renewal is neither automatic nor guaranteed. To be considered for renewal a recipient must reapply. The Office of the Dean, the Wall College of Business, and the Wall Board of Visitors’ Scholarship Committee will review qualified applicants and recommend the successful recipient(s) to the University Scholarship Committee.

 

The George H. and Martha Sue Sanderson Endowed Scholarship (New or Continuing students)

 To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted as an undergraduate student at CCU;

2. Major in management, finance or marketing in the Wall College of Business;

3. New freshmen must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0;

4. New transfer students must have a minimum cumulative collegiate GPA of 3.0;

5. Continuing students must have a minimum cumulative CCU GPA of 3.0;

6. Maintain full-time status and demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

7. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

The scholarship award amount varies and is dependent upon funding. This endowed scholarship is given in memory of George H. and Martha Sue Sanderson. The award is for one year. Renewal of this scholarship is neither automatic nor guaranteed; a recipient must reapply for consideration. The Wall Board of Visitors will select the successful recipient upon the recommendation of distinguished applicants by the dean of the Wall College of Business.

 

 Subhash Saxena Scholarship (Continuing or new transfer students)

This scholarship is intended to be awarded to students attending CCU through the Ansal Institute of Technology and majoring in computer science or business. If no students are available who participate through the Ansal program, it is to be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

1. Must be admitted and enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student at CCU;

2. Must be majoring in mathematics;

3. Must have a minimum cumulative collegiate GPA of 3.0;

4. Demonstrate satisfactory degree progress.

5. Submit application as outlined on the 2014-2015 Application-based Scholarship Guide.

Frank A. Thompson II Bridge Scholarship  (Continuing students)

The Frank A. Thompson II Bridge Scholarship is intended for students who have lost eligibility of a South Carolina State Lottery Scholarship. The award amount varies and recipients will be chosen from students meeting the following criteria:

  1. Be an Horry County resident;
  2. Be a full-time, continuing student enrolled in the E. Craig Wall, Sr. College of Business;
  3. Lost eligibility for the SC Palmetto LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship;
  4. Minimum 2.5 LIFE GPA;
  5. Demonstrates financial need through the FAFSA;
  6. Submits a personal statement describing what being the recipient of this scholarship would mean to them; and
  7. Submits a letter of recommendation from an E. Craig Wall, Sr. College of Business Administration professor.

An email will be sent to students meeting the criteria at the beginning of the fall semester asking them to submit the additional documentation to receive the award. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters.

Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship Program (BGS Members Only)

 Any current BGS member that was inducted at CCU or who will be inducted at CCU this April AND will be a degree seeking student enrolled in a business program at either CCU or another college or university with AACSB International accreditation during the following academic year (2014-15) is eligible to compete in the BGS Scholarship Program.  In the case of a nominee was invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma during this semester, the scholarship award will be contingent upon acceptance of the membership invitation.  Recipients of the scholarship must use the scholarship for senior or master's level study in a business degree program at either CCU or a college or university with AACSB International accreditation during the 2014-2015 academic year.
