Organizational mission or general goals: The Silver Haired Legislature is a 72 member, non-partisan senior advocacy group that advises the South Carolina state government on issues, concerns and possible solutions for problems faced by the citizens of South Carolina with special emphasis on issues related to older adults and retirees in the state. It is comprised of 10 regional delegations.
Primary services provided: Researches issues and advises the South Carolina Governor, General Assembly, and Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging on issues affecting the quality of life of the more than 600,000 persons aged 60 or older living in South Carolina.
Primary clientele served: The more than 40,000 older adults and retirees aged 60 and above living in the Waccamaw Caucus three county area of Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg.
Employees and/or volunteers: All volunteers.
Staff members eligible for professional credentialing and credentialed staff members employed: Not applicable.
Clients/patients/participants served each year: The South Carolina Silver Haired Legislature strives to educate the public on Senior issues and encourages Seniors throughout the state to participate actively in public affairs.
Organization accredited or certified by an outside agency or association: The South Carolina Silver Haired Legislature is a state-wide non-partisan organization created in 1999 by the SC General Assembly and signed into law by Governor James H. Hodges.
Special services or pricing for senior citizens: No fees are charged.
