Organizational mission or general goals:
It is the mission of the Georgetown County Probate Court to provide quality services to the public in a courteous and timely manner, ever mindful of the sensitive nature of the services provided and the emotional state of the clients.
Primary services provided:
The Probate Court has jurisdiction over estates of deceased persons, guardianship of incompetents, conservatorships of estates of minors and incompetents, minor settlements under $25,000, and involuntary commitments to institutions for mentally ill and/or chemically dependent persons. Probate Court also has exclusive jurisdiction over trusts and concurrent jurisdiction with Circuit Courts over powers of attorney. Probate Court also issues marriage licenses.
