Organizational mission or general goals:
SharedCare, Inc. improves the well being of communitites by providing access to healthcare for uninsured, low income residents and by developing innovative approaches to enhance physical, mental and spiritual health.

Primary services provided:
SharedCare coordinates access to health care for low income uninsured residents of Horry County. Services include referrals for primary and specialty care on a sliding scale and/or discounted rate, access to generic prescription medications for a $2 co-pay, and access to other medical services such as laboratory tests, x-rays and other diagnostic tests, mental health and nutrition services, out-patient surgery and physical therapy. There is no charge to join SharedCare, however members will be asked to pay medical providers for some services on a sliding scale or discounted rate. SharedCare is not insurance, and health care providers who participate donate much of the care our members receive. SharedCare attempts to find timely, appropriate care for all members, and we cannot guarantee the quality, immediacy or cost of care.

Primary clientele served:
To qualify for SharedCare you must: a)not have or qualify for any public or private health insurance (including Medicaid and Medicare), b) live in Horry County, and c) meet our household income requirements.

Employees and/or volunteers:
SharedCare employs 5 full time professionals in management, technology and program operations, and two part-time administrative professionals. We contract the services of 6 full time eligibility workers and one supervisor from the SC DHHS Medicaid Eligibility program to conduct screening and enrollment at five sites in the county. We have 192 volunteer physicians, dentists, and nurse practioners, and 28 pharmicists providing service to our members at 3 hospitals, 2 community health centers, a free clinic, 9 pharmacies, and 65 private practices or other medical facilities.

Staff members eligible for professional credentialing and credentialed staff members employed:
SharedCare's staff does not directly provide health care, so no credentialing is applicable. Our staff is well qualified in their respective fields with three holding master's degrees in religion, business and public health.

Clients/patients/participants served each year:
In our first two years of operation, March 31, 2003 to March 31, 2005, we enrolled 3,718 people in SharedCare and 2,504 in Medicaid. Currently we have 2,362 active members.

Organization accredited or certified by an outside agency or association:
SharedCare does not directly provide health care so we are not accredited. We are a federally registered 501(c)3 non-profit, and registered as a charity with the state of South Carolina.

Special services or pricing for senior citizens:
SharedCare's services are available to all who qualify regardless of age. There are no special programs or discounts for seniors, however, seniors stuggling with chronic illness such as diabetes find our comprehensive and coordinated services helpful in managing their disease successfully.
