Organizational mission or general goals: Provide telecommunications equipment for qualifying, permanent residents of South Carolina who have difficulty hearing or speaking over a standard telephone. The S.C. Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS) partners with the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) to administer the SCEDP program. Taffy Hardin is the SCEDP Director.
Primary services provided: Provides a diverse array of telecommunication equipment (amplified telephones, alerting devices, etc), and installations and trainings free of charge to customers.
Primary clientele served: Qualifying disabilities are: deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf/blind, blind-low vision with hearing loss, OR speech impaired. Seniors with late onset hearing loss qualify for free equipment.
Employees and/or volunteers: Five (5) full time employees and 5 contractual employees.

Clients/patients/participants served each year: Approximately 4,000 devices are distributed each year.
Organization accredited or certified by an outside agency or association: State Department of Education
Special services or pricing for senior citizens: SCEDP is a free, state supported program for senior citizens and individuals who qualify for services. No income level restrictions. Equipment is shipped free of charge. Installations and Trainings provided, if customer makes a request, at no charge to the client.
Comments: Senior citizens must complete an application and have the form certified by a licensed professional certifier (Audiologist, Hearing Aid Specialist, Doctor/Physician, Speech Language Pathologist, Physician's Assistant, OR Advanced Practice Registered Nurse). The applicant must provide an ID as proof of S.C. residence and a copy of a page of their telephone bill to prove they have a telephone line in their place of residence. |
