Organizational mission or general goals: Helping hand is a crisis intervention agency whose basic purpose is to minister to the needs of the community not met my existing institutions. Helping Hand's mission is to provide assistance to those in need in our community through food, rent and utility assistance, gasoline, local and long distance bus tickets, prescription medications, diapers, hygiene items, and referrals to other appropriate agencies.
Primary services provided: Provide food, prescription meds,gasoline, bus tickets, diapers, hygiene, rent and utilities, clothing referrals and referrals to agencies. No charge for any services. For residents of Myrtle Beach and west to Conway City limits.
Primary clientele served: Any person in need.
Employees and/or volunteers: Two part time; 20 volunteers.
Staff members eligible for professional credentialing and credentialed staff members employed: One staff member is an RT (Radiologic tech), 15 years at Helping Hand. One staff member has a BS in Sociology, 7 years at Helping Hand.
Clients/patients/participants served each year: 13,305 in 2004.
Organization accredited or certified by an outside agency or association: United Way of Horry County.
Special services or pricing for senior citizens: No.
Comments: Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach has teamed up with the Feinstein Foundation in an effort to raise money. The Feinstein Foundation focuses on the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood. The Foundation distributes $1 million among hunger fighting agencies during March and April. Any donation to Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach between March 1st and April 30th will be matched dollar for dollar by the Feinstin Foundation. Helping Hand utilizes volunteers extensively and is always looking for volunteers to serve as receptionists for 3 hours weekly. Training is provided. |
