It is not just a goal to attract the best in the state to Coastal Carolina, it is a goal to attract the best in the nearby area as well. This was accomplished when Malcolm Albino, a sophomore from Georgetown, decided to enroll at CCU.

When describing the many strengths of Malcolm, it is tough to decide where to start. Perhaps beginning with his resume is the best route. Serving as a resident adviser, an orientation leader and a Teal Traiblazer, there should not be one student on campus who does not know Malcolm by the time he graduates a couple years down the road. On top of all this, he also lends a big hand to the athletic department as a marketing and fan experience student worker. Most impressively, he is enrolled in the Honors Program.

Malcolm’s philosophy is as ambitious as his resume. Calling himself determined, Malcolm is a goal oriented individual who keeps himself on track at all times. He advocates for people to always be themselves and to smile. Whenever possible, Malcolm will do what he can motivate and inspire others.

The third piece worth noting about Malcolm is the future he has mapped out for himself. After graduating from Coastal, he wants to attend the New York University School of Law. He envisions himself as a defense attorney practicing in Manhattan. Eventually, he would like to serve in Congress.

Nothing more fulfilling than a Grand Strand resident staying in the area to attend CCU and then taking the world by storm, right? We thank Malcolm for choosing Coastal and for the impact he has already had on campus.

Malcolm wants to work in Congress one day.

Q&A with Malcolm

How did you hear about Coastal?: I heard about Coastal as a sophomore in high school because I went to a leadership workshop that the University hosted.

Why did you come to Coastal?: I chose Coastal because of the one-on-one relationships with professors and students.

Favorite professor: My favorite professor is Carmelita Keene. Professor Keene was my FYE Business Professor. She was more than a professor to her students and myself. She was a mentor. Professor Keene gave us and continues to give us the best advice on how to deal with hardships in college. She taught me that being professional and punctual is fundamental to succeeding in college and in life.

Favorite class: My favorite class is financial accounting with Sheila Mitchell. Her love for the subject is easily noticeable while she teaches. She keeps us engaged in the lessons and her class provides a great environment for learning.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: My favorite aspect of Coastal is the engagement. I have had the opportunity to engage and meet different people throughout my time here. To know that I continuously put a smile on the faces of my fellow classmates and friends is a feeling that is indescribable.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I have been living in the Grand Strand area my whole life because I am from Georgetown.  However, my favorite aspect of living in Conway/Myrtle Beach is having everything nearby. The beach, shopping centers, movies and my favorite places above all else…restaurants!

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: I am a resident adviser, I work in the Department of Athletics for the Marketing and Fan Experience branch, I am a Teal Trailblazer, I am an orientation leader, I am a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and I am also enrolled in the honors college.

Plans after graduation?: After graduation I plan on attending New York University School of Law to pursue a jurist doctorate degree. I want to practice law as a defense attorney in Manhattan. After that I would love to be in Congress.

What are your hobbies?: My hobbies include making people laugh, cooking, sleeping, watching Hulu and law cases.

Do you have any hidden talents?:  My hidden talent is that I love to sing despite the fact that I cannot.

Bonus Info: I love to motivate and inspire people. Each day I want to make someone else smile because laughter brings joy. “Be confident, be determined and be you!
