When Michael Baney’s grandparents moved to the Grand Strand area they suggested to their grandson, who was living in New Jersey at the time, to do a little research on Coastal Carolina to see if there might be a fit. Michael thought “why not?” and gave CCU a look. It turned out that he enjoyed the campus and atmosphere so much that the suggestion from his grandma and grandpa would end up shaping the next several years of his life.

Currently a junior, Michael is studying computer science. He is deeply involved with the Residence Hall Association, holding an executive board position during the 2016-17 academic year. His involvement with RHA led him to become a resident adviser, a position in which he is able to assist and connect with his fellow Chanticleers.

Motivated by academic excellence, he hopes to repeat the 4.0 GPA he earned last semester throughout the rest of his time at CCU. When discussing his school, Michael says he is grateful that Coastal has allowed him to “expound on who I am as a person.” With the academic success he has already achieved combined with his admiration for the institution he is experiencing it at, the conditions seem right for Michael to accomplish whatever he sets his mind to.
