Student-athletes at Coastal Carolina are recruited to have an impact both in the classroom and on the playing field. However, the return that CCU has received from Michel Enanga has far surpassed expectations on both counts.
From the African country of Cameroon, Michel decided to attend Coastal Carolina not just because of the basketball program but also because of the location and campus facilities. A member of the men’s basketball team during its arguably most successful stretch in program history, Michel helped the Chants reach back-to-back NCAA tournaments. Throughout his entire eligibility, Michel used his personal determination and the guidance of the coaching staff to improve as a player. It is his hope that after he wraps up his graduate degree this academic year, he will be in a position to start a professional basketball career overseas.
But if the competitive world of pro basketball doesn’t work out for Michel, he has other career options to fall back on. While Michel works on his master’s degree in business administration, he is also serving as a math tutor. His talent for helping others understand difficult mathematical concepts stretches from fellow students to faculty and staff members. A tutor for four years, the position helped him connect with others when he was first hired.
“If you can’t communicate with words, you can communicate with numbers,” Michel explains about how math helped ease any language barrier.

Impressed by Coastal’s diversity and growth, he has an obvious appreciation for where he has spent the past six years. The appreciation is matched by how the campus feels about Michel. Q&A with Michel
How did you hear about Coastal?: I was recruited during high school to play basketball.
Why did you come to Coastal?: I decided to come for several reasons including the new HTC Center, the weather, the athletic program, the location and the coaches.
Favorite professor: Arline McKenny, Ph.D.
Favorite class: Leadership MBA 615
Favorite aspect of Coastal?: Itsdiversity and constant development.
Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: The weather is, for the most, great
(even though it is sometimes surprising).
Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: I play volleyball, basketball and soccer but most of my day is spent serving as a tutor so I don’t really have time for much more.
Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I am a grad assistant for the Math Learning Center. I have worked there for the past four years.
Plans after graduation?: My goal is to achieve my first dream which is to play professional basketball. If that does not work, I have my diplomas to fall back on to help me get an interesting job.
What are your hobbies?: I love working out, playing sports and watching movies/animés.
Do you have any hidden talents?: I can dance- I am a self-learner. I believe I can do anything as long as I see it once or twice.
Bonus Info: I was born pre-mature in critical condition. Ironically, I ended up being bigger than most of people. Also, thanks to CCU for giving me this opportunity to get a free education while chasing my dreams. Forever a Chant!
