Wyatt's Video

Wyatt Davies is one of those students who gets it. He understands that the best way to thrive is to push the boundaries of one’s comfort zone and just go for it. How else do you explain a young man who has been involved in such diverse groups as WCCU Radio, SGA, the Residence Hall Association, The Chanticleer (student newspaper) and a couple different honor societies?

Believing that it doesn’t pay off to be nervous or timid, Wyatt will talk to anyone about practically anything. For someone who is so open and friendly, imagine how the world opened up to him when he went from a high school graduating class of 31 students to Coastal Carolina. Although the number of students around him vastly multiplied when he stepped on campus, it wasn’t overwhelming by any means as Wyatt credits CCU for being a place where “everyone is going to know you.”

A person who enjoys an eclectic range of hobbies, Wyatt likes to play tennis, collect sneakers and sing in the car. He also likes to make apps, which might explain why he is studying information systems. In the near future, Wyatt wants to apply his Coastal education by working in the technology field. His dream is to serve on a team where he can help make products that will improve the lives of others. Until that time comes, we will just continue to improve our campus by being on it.

Wyatt is from Fredericksburg, Va.
Wyatt is involved with SGA.

Q&A with Wyatt

How did you hear about Coastal?: I first heard about Coastal from an ad on TV when I visited Myrtle Beach in 2012, but found out more about it when I was applying to colleges.

Why did you come to Coastal?: I was really impressed by the campus and how happy everyone looked when I visited in high school.  Coming from a graduating class of 31 people, I was also excited about the size of the student body and how it allowed for a more personal experience.

Favorite professor:  I have had so many great professors, but I would have to put it between Dr. Steve Madden, Ph.D., and Jack Roper, Ph.D.

Favorite class: This is another toss-up between COMM 140 and HIST 200, which were taught by Steve Madden and Jack Roper, respectively.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: Without a doubt, the people.  Everyone wants to get to know you and help you grow.  There are also a great amount of opportunities to do a little bit of everything with the numerous organizations on campus.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I love the weather and attractions.  I also really enjoy seeing concerts at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach.  I have met a few artists who have played there by going behind the building after shows!

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?:  I am the Brother At Large of the Zeta Xi chapter of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, the station manager and a DJ at WCCU Radio, a Junior College of Science Senator in Student Government Association and a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.  Previously, I wrote for The Chanticleer, was the president of the Grand Strand Community Council, vice president of the Low Country Community Council, and was involved in Residence Hall Association.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: WCCU Radio

Plans after graduation?: I plan to start my career in the technology field in a position where I can be a part of a team who makes cool products which improve the lives of people.  I love interacting with people and helping them grow, so I am looking for a role which lets me do so.

What are your hobbies?: I like discovering and sharing music, making apps, playing tennis, traveling, collecting sneakers and Starbucks cards, dancing, singing in the car and drinking too much coffee.

Do you have any hidden talents?:  I would like to think I can sing.  I can type really quickly!  I talk a lot, so I don’t know if a lot about me is hidden.

Bonus Info: I am a huge fan of House of Cards!  I am so proud to go to the same school as alum Michael Kelly, who plays one of my favorite characters, Doug Stamper.  One time freshman year, I drove my friends to get food while wearing a tie, so they have called me Ed Meechum ever since.  The desktop background for my account on the SGA computer is Frank Underwood.  I even visited the fake popup Underwood campaign office in Greenville, S.C.  I later bought the shirt and lanyard on eBay from the college kid working the door.  I also have the Season 4 press package and Cards Against Humanity special pack.  I did not realize how much of a fan I was until I wrote this.
