Mission Statement
The Biddle Center for Teaching, Learning and Community Engagement is the public outreach and applied research arm
of Coastal Carolina University for grades K-16 students, families, community and related agencies. The Center seeks
to promote a community of academically successful and supported grades K-16 students. The Biddle Center for Teaching,
Learning and Community Engagement seeks to strengthen the community through education and to strengthen education
through the support of the community.
Value Statement
The underlying belief of the Biddle Center for Teaching, Learning and Community Engagement is based
in systems theory, in the knowledge that we are connected, and that we cannot improve or change education or better
potential opportunities for children without also supporting, improving and changing the community.
Goals
To raise awareness of education as a prevention tool. (Goals II-A, IV-B, VII-A,
VIII-A & C)
To foster understanding that education is not only about learning to learn – but
also learning to serve. A knowledgeable citizen is not enough to move our democracy forward; we need knowledgeable
citizens who are invested in our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation. (Goals II-A, III-C,
VII-B & C, VIII-A & C)
To positively affect K-16 student academic success, progression through school, and
graduation rate. (Goals I-B, VI-A, VII-A)
To develop and implement programs and services to enrich the lives of K-16 students and
the community. (Goals II-A,IV-A, VI-A, B & C, VII-A & C, VIII-A & C)
To provide knowledge and resources that will support parent(s)/guardian(s) in the
guidance and development of K-12 students. (Goals II-A, VI-A & C, VII-A, VIII-A & C)
