Community Outreach
Falk-Griffin Foundation/Teach My People Scholarship – the work-study scholarship recipient must be a current Coastal Carolina University and the scholarship is renewable for a maximum of eight semesters. The renewable criteria must be met each academic year. This scholarship requires the recipient to be a full-time students; undergraduate major in education (early childhood, elementary, middle grades, physical education or special education), health promotions, or recreation and sport management; complete at least 30 credit hours per academic year (fall, spring, and subsequent summer terms); work minimum of 20 hours weekly in the Waccamaw community-based after-school program; participate in an orientation; receive ongoing evaluation and two-way feedback; and maintain a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Students who do not meet the required scholarship criteria for renewal have the opportunity to use the summer terms to attain the required GPA and earn the required credit hours. Falk-Griffin Foundation/Teach My People Endowed Scholarship – scholarship recipient must live in the Waccamaw community of Georgetown County; aspire to pursue a degree in a 4-year higher education institution in the state of South Carolina (Coastal Carolina University); maintains full-time student status and a 2.5 cumulative GPA; work minimum of 20 hours weekly in the Waccamaw community (10 hours as a mentor in a Waccamaw community-based after-school program and 10 hours volunteering/ participating in an enrichment experience/service related to their field of study in the Waccamaw community).
Falk-Griffin Foundation/Teach My People Middle and High School Vision Program –enrichment programs and experiences which incorporates college campus visits, educational events and experiences, workshops on issues facing young adolescents, personal development, college planning and preparation, etc.). Participants in this Waccamaw area program must reside in the Georgetown area and participate in identified community-based youth programs. Examples
