Coastal/Pee Dee Chapter Competition February 26, 2011
South Carolina State Competition March 12, 2011
The MathCounts Program is collaboration between South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers and Coastal Carolina University designed to heighten middle school student interest in mathematics by making math achievement as challenging, exciting and prestigious as a school sport. MATHCOUNTS challenges students' math skills, develops their self-confidence and rewards them for their achievements. Coastal Carolina University serves as host to the Pee Dee Region MATHCOUNTS competition while also providing students with the opportunity to experience a college campus. This is an annual program first hosted by Coastal Carolina University spring 2009. 2009 the MathCounts Program brought 6th-8th grade students from the following counties: Horry, Georgetown, Chesterfield, Dillon, Darlington, Florence, Lee, Marlboro, Marion, Sumter and Williamsburg to campus for a day long mathematics competition with qualifications to the state competition and a higher education experience.
