The program seeks to develop the whole student-athlete academically, athletically, and personally. The CHANTS Community Outreach Program supports the philosophy that student-athletes gain “leadership through service.” The program is designed to enhance the quality of the student-athlete overall experience through community-based service that highlights how the student-athlete is a leader and a role model in the community as well as on campus. An important part of one's life is selfless service to the community, and this commitment provides student-athletes an opportunity to begin now and develop lifelong commitment to volunteerism. The program assists to show how student-athlete’s time is valuable and the impact of that time on others is immeasurable. The program hopes to develop future philanthropist, civically engaged citizens, role models to the youth within the community, and just better human being. The activities range from reading to local schools, motivational speaking, hosting sports clinics, and mentoring younger children.
