Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, & Advancement (CERRA)
The Teacher Cadet Partnership is collaboration between Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, & Advancement (CERRA) and Coastal Carolina University is designed to attract talented young people to the teaching profession by offering an honors level high school course that introduces them to the nature of teaching, the problems of schooling, and critical issues affecting the quality of education in America’s schools. Cadets are offered the option for three hours of college credit upon successful completion of the course through this partnership. The partnership also hosts Teacher Cadet College Day for the Region 4 cadets at Coastal Carolina University each year, which provides cadets with opportunities to learn about the teacher education programs offered in the Spadoni College of Education; learn about Coastal Carolina University; learn about the admission process; participate in team building activities; interview former cadets who are current education majors; listen to a presentation by the South Carolina Teacher of the Year; and get to know other high school students who are interested in teaching as a career. Each year the Teacher Cadet Partnership bring over 200 12th-grade students from the following counties: Horry, Georgetown and Sumter involved in the program at the high school level and participate in a full-day on-campus teacher education orientation and a higher education experience.
