The BERM program was developed through grants from the South Carolina Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) and the US Geological Survey to document annual change within the entire active beach system of South Carolina (dunes to inner continental shelf) assisting OCRM to manage the state's critical beach resources. The program has since expanded its scope of work to include monthly shoreline surveys of Grand Strand beaches, renourishment projects, and additional beach and nearshore projects with an emphasis on public education and outreach.
