Marine and Environmental Education
The environmental educator at CMWS is responsible for developing and leading precollege (K-12th grade) students, teachers and adult groups in marine science and environmental field workshops and presentations. These activities include: field workshops studying the undeveloped barrier island at the Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve (Waties Island), and freshwater ecosystems at the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge; classroom presentations on topics such as sea turtles or watersheds; and teacher workshops that link teachers directly with research scientists and faculty.
Stormwater Education
The CMWS environmental educator also serves as the Coordinator for the Coastal Waccamaw Stormwater Education Consortium (CWSEC). Educational and training workshops and presentations on stormwater runoff and its effects on regional waterways are offered to local municipalities’ officials and staff as well as citizen and school groups from the Education Providers of the Consortium. To learn more about CWSEC, please visit the Consortium website (http://www.cwsec-sc.org).
To learn more and/or register for the above offerings, please contact the Environmental Educator at kfuss (at) coastal.edu or 843-349-4058.
