Kimbel Library panel talks about scholarly publishing

Getting Scholarly Works Published is the topic of a panel discussion on Thursday, April 7 at Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University. The event is free and open to the public.

Gain insight into the writing and publishing process from two published Coastal professors at this discussion from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the library on James P. Blanton Circle. Refreshments will be provided.

Featured panel members include:

Susan Libes is director of the newly-formed Waccamaw Watershed Academy (WWA) and a professor of chemistry and marine science at CCU and author of a textbook, entitled An Introduction to Marine Biogeochemistry, published by John Wiley and Sons and used internationally at the graduate and undergraduate level. She has also authored articles in the field of marine chemistry and innovative teaching methods in environmental chemistry Libes was named 2003 HTC Distinguished Teacher Scholar Lecturer at CCU.

Sharon Thompson, the 2004 HTC Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Lecturer, teaches classes in theories of health behavioral change, nutrition, health in the elementary schools and womens health. The Dannon Institute presented Thompson the Excellence in Community Nutrition Award for her research on preventing osteoporosis among female athletes in 2004. She has involved numerous CCU students in her research and they have presented and published a variety of articles on body image and nutrition. She was also The Sun News Volunteer of the Year in 2004.
