CCU endowment to send student to Model House of Representatives
The endowment will provide funding for a student to attend the five-day simulation of the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill. The national program is intended to provide students with a working knowledge of American government. The next Model House of Representatives program will take place May 18 through June 2, 2007.
The student will be selected by a committee named by the chairs of Coastal's Department of History, and Department of Political Science and Geography. The recipient is required to prepare a report on the experience for delivery to Jenrette. Students from any academic discipline are eligible to receive funding from the endowment.
Jenrette, an Horry County native, is an alumnus of Wofford College and earned a law degree at the University of South Carolina. He worked as city attorney, judge and state representative before running for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1972. He served in Congress from 1973-1981 and is currently president of a public relations firm in Myrtle Beach.
