Community Action Forum on Waccamaw water quality set for April 28 at CCU

April 26, 2007

A Community Action Forum designed to encourage local involvement in water quality issues relating to the Waccamaw River and its tributaries will be held Saturday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to noon at Coastal Carolina University's Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies.

The event, which is free although reservations are recommended, is sponsored by CCU's Waccamaw Watershed Academy and the City of Conway's Water Quality and Drainage Commission.

The forum will provide information on the condition of the area's watershed and the importance of maintaining it for the future. Citizens will also be encouraged to voice their concerns and get involved with clean-up efforts that have been undertaken through the Watershed Academy. During a one-day clean-up in 2006, 14 people collected more than 1,000 pounds of trash along a five-mile stretch of the Waccamaw River.

To register for the forum, contact David Fuss of the Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies at 349-4023 or e-mail The Center is located in the Atlantic Center across U.S. 501 from the Coastal campus.
