Coastal Carolina University hosts Centennial Celebration

Coastal Carolina University's college chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a Centennial Celebration on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the nation's oldest civil rights organization. The event is free and open to the public.

The guest speaker will be Microsoft executive Corey Griffin and will include a performance by the University's gospel choir, the Inspirational Ambassadors. A historical timeline of events and accomplishments of the association will also be displayed.

Griffin is responsible for Microsoft's global strategy for international development aid, trade and finance agencies. He facilitates Microsoft's development engagements around the world. He has been with the company for 13 years. In his address, Griffin will discuss the NAACP's history, traditions and its mission in the world today.

The event is part of the University's annual African-American Celebration, a series of events designed to highlight the art, history, music and theater of African-American culture. Events are scheduled throughout the 2009 spring semester.
