OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION PROGRAM TO BE HELD APRIL 17

April 12, 2001

Coastal Carolina Universitys department of health promotion will hold an osteoporosis prevention program for women on Tuesday, April 17 at 11 a.m. in Wall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The program, conducted by Kathryn Hilgenkamp-Rodgers, assistant professor of health promotion at Coastal, will focus on the dangers of osteoporosis and the importance of developing a healthy lifestyle to help prevent this disease. Increasing the consumption of calcium will also be addressed. Free samples of non-dairy calcium-rich products will be available.

According to Hilgenkamp-Rodgers, factors that help reduce osteoporosis are sound nutritional and exercise habits as well as an increase in calcium consumption.

The program is funded by a grant from the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
