Coastal Carolina University presents accounting lecture

Accountants Jeffrey Thomson and John Brausch will present a lecture at Coastal Carolina University at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, Room 317. The lecture, sponsored by CCUs accounting club, is free and open to the public.

The lecture will discuss the benefits of becoming acertified management accountant (CMA), the benefits of Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) membership, and the overall career choice of accounting.

IMA is the worlds leading association for management accountants focused on driving business performance in the areas of decision support, planning and control. As president and CEO, Thomson is responsible for leading and directing IMAs operations, programs, products and services. Since joining IMA in 2005, Thomas has launched the IMA Research Center of Excellence and serves as program chair for IMAs Global Conference and Annual Conference and Exposition. Prior to joining IMA, Thomson worked at AT&T for more than two decades.

Thomson earned a masters degree in statistics from Montclair State University, received a certificate in finance and accounting from the Wharton School, and completed the Columbia University Senior Executive Leadership Program.

John Brausch is chair of IMAs National Board and is vice president-property controller for Edens & Avant, one of the largest private developers of retail shopping centers on the East Coast. Brausch is a frequent contributor to publication in the field. His article, "Target Costing for Profit Enhancement" in the IMAs Management Accounting Quarterly, won the Lybrand Medal for its outstanding contribution to accounting literature.

Brausch is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, and holds an MBA from the University of Montana.
