CCU discusses international collaboration

June 7, 2010

Representatives from seven nations are gathered at Coastal Carolina University June 7 and 8 to discuss ways to increase international collaboration as a part of the Consortium of International Double Degrees (CIDD) annual meeting. Directors of international affairs and/or deans from 10 universities or colleges in Latvia, Germany, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and as far away as Japan will participate in the meeting.

The meeting takes place on Coastal Carolina Universitys campus on Monday, June 7 and then at the host hotel, the Caravelle Resort, the morning of Tuesday, June 8. This is the first time the organization has held its annual meeting outside Europe.

The Consortium of International Double Degrees (CIDD) was initiated to provide a forum for the exchange and mutual development of high quality practices among partnering universities as these business programs worked to develop double degrees. (A double degree is a program in which formalized articulation of transfer credit is developed between two universities and ultimately a study program created so that students can finish degrees at both universities at either the bachelors or masters levels.)

Working with CIDD has been very helpful to us. We have identified a number of new international partners through the collaboration with CIDD members said Darla Domke-Damonte, executive director of global initiatives for Coastal Carolina University and assistant dean for international programs in CCUs E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. Now, consistent with the Coastal Carolina University strategic plan, we seek to broaden the already successful international collaborative relationships in the Wall College of Business to other colleges and departments of CCU. For this reason, we are delighted to bring these distinguished visitors to our campus and region."

CIDD comprises 22 member institutions that offer business education in 14 countries and three associate members from two additional countries. All institutions are accredited, provide high quality learning environments for their students, have an active strategy to support internationalization, and are committed to the development of international mobility programs for students and teaching faculty at the university level. CIDD works to develop collaborative double degree programs, enhance the mobility of students and faculty abroad, provide for joint and collaborative research projects, and support the networking of alumni and businesses.
