CCU receives second award as military-friendly university

October 25, 2010

Coastal Carolina University has been designated one of the 2010 Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities Honorees by Military Advanced Education, a journal of higher learning for service members.

The University will be recognized in the December 2010 issue of Military Advanced Education (Volume 5, Issue 10).

CCU, selected from more than 2,000 college and university applicants, was chosen by an independent panel of judges from the fields of both education and the military. The selection was based on the Universitys favorable policies toward military men and women.

CCU offers the following services and activities in support of military students and veterans:

The new Student Veterans Association has attained full representation in the Student Government Association Senate.

A U.S. Army ROTC program has nearly tripled its participation level in just two years.

Coastal Carolina University Veterans Association, which comprises more than 60 current or retired faculty and staff as well as alumni who have served honorably in any branch of the military, active/reserve or National Guards, has been formed.

In concert with the Library of Congress, CCU's Center for Military and Veterans Studies records and preserves the oral history of area veterans.

A new Student Veteran Services office, run by student veterans, is an initial point-of-contact information center for military students.

CCU's Office of Veteran Affairs assists student veterans in securing scholarships, grants, on campus work-study employment and loans.

CCU received a designation as a Military-Friendly School for 2011 by G.I. Jobs Magazine in August. The honor placed CCU in the top 15 percent of schools nationwide as a university committed to educating military veterans.
