CCU Dance Company presents A Christmas to Remember

December 2, 2010

Coastal Carolina University Dance Company will step foot into the holiday season with its second annual A Christmas to Remember variety show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 4 in the Black Box Theatre of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

This years performance is a combination of two acts that celebrate this festive, family-focused time of year. Act I, Soul Connections, features eight dance pieces that each tells a unique story. Some of the stories include the struggles of being homeless, the struggle whether to stay in a relationship or leave when one cheats, first meetings and new love, getting up the courage to make the first move and the joy of friendship, says Barbara Hartwig, Dance Companys director, writer and choreographer.

Act II, A Christmas to Remember, is a holiday musical revue showcasing all styles of dance from ballet to hip-hop choreographed to classic and contemporary favorites. Hartwig says to expect a 50s, country-western and nostalgic section. There is something for the entire family, she says.

A Christmas to Remember is a culmination of the fall semester Dance Company class, for which trained students audition at the end of spring semester. The 11 featured students this year are seniors Nicole Borysowicz, James Wells, Jamie White and Stephanie von Hagel; juniors Emily Brockway, Caleb Jernigan and Ryan Shaefer; and sophomores Elyse Brown, Kimberlee Ward, Jackie Wiatrowski and Callie Davis. Steven Gross is the revues music director.

General admission is $3; seating is limited. For ticket information, contact Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-2502.
