CCU Voice Faculty to perform Kitchen Sink concert

February 10, 2011

Coastal Carolina Universitys voice faculty foursome will present The Kitchen Sink: the Venerated to the Vernacular at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Voice faculty members David Bankston (tenor), Patti Edwards (soprano), Jeffrey Jones and Timothy Koch (baritones), accompanied by Ann Miles on piano, will perform a kitchen sink assortment of genres from opera and classical music to pop, jazz standards and musical theater favorites.

As our depth has grown and the number of voice faculty has increased, were excited to finally have a four-voice faculty, says Jones. This will be the quartets second concert, following its debut performances throughout the area last spring.

Jones says the audience can expect to hear a lineup of selections that mirror the name of the program, such as opera arias by Puccini and Mendelssohn, as well as Sinatras Fly Me to the Moon and Billy Joels And So It Goes in solo, duet and ensemble arrangements. Bankston will also play a few of his original songs on guitar.

Its going to be a fun, exciting concert because of all the different styles, says Jones. And people will be able to hear four veteran singers perform this variety of music.

The concert is $3 for general admission and free for CCU and HGTC students, faculty and staff, and children ages 10 and under, but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
