Coastal Carolina University's Coastal Winds Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform Moons, Stars & Planets, a spring concert set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in Wheelwright Auditorium.

The concert will feature themed music, including Mars and Jupiter from Gustav Holsts The Planets, Sousas Looking Upward suite and Richard Saucedos Cambrian Explosion.

Guest artist Matthew Murchison, principal euphoniumist with the River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh, Pa., will perform his composition Moonfall for euphonium and band.

Celestial art, created by Coastal's Student Artist Society, will be displayed in the lobby before the concert. The CCU Astronomy Club will offer stargazing outside of Wheelwright Auditorium following the performance.

The ensemble and band will also perform in Marion on Sunday, April 10. The concert is set for 7 p.m. at the CD Joyner Auditorium, at 221 Elizabeth St.

The Coastal Winds Ensemble, directed by James L. Tully, CCU professor of music and director of bands, consists of students of all majors performing a varied repertoire. This auditioned ensemble features 25 of the best University players on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

The Symphonic Band, also directed by Tully, has been the mainstay of the concert band program at the University since its inception in 2001. This ensemble has played two world premieres and has performed with some of the genre's finest wind band conductors and soloists.
