Award-winning comedy 'Boeing-Boeing' opens soon

Atlantic Stage Theatre is performing "Boeing-Boeing," a Tony Award-winning comedy, which opens in preview on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the 79th Avenue Theatre in Coastal Carolina University's Myrtle Beach Education Center. Opening night is Friday, Oct. 14, and the play will run through Sunday, Oct. 30.

In this French comedy by Marc Camoletti, Bernard, a successful architect living in a posh Paris apartment, has been deftly juggling three fiances who are all flight attendants. Its easy with careful timing and a bit of assistance from his reluctant housekeeper who plays romantic air-traffic controller. This supersonic lifestyle hits turbulence when his old college friend visits and flight schedules change.

This play is recommended for adults and children ages 12 and older.

"Boeing-Boeing" is directed by CCU theatre professor Steve Earnest, a founding member of the Atlantic Stage company. The cast features professional actress Gwendolyn Schwinke as the put-upon French housekeeper Berthe. Other cast members include Emily Brockway, Sara Cataldo, Brantley Ivey, Mark Jurosko, Matthew McCoy and Jennifer Pagano.

Atlantic Stage, the only professional theatre company in the Myrtle Beach area, operates in cooperation with CCU's Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP). The program provides valuable professional work experience for the University's theatre students. Schwinke, an assistant professor of theatre at CCU, has worked in professional theatre for more than 20 years and is a member of Actor's Equity. She has worked as an actress and a voice/dialect coach with several jprofessional companies including the Oxford Shakespeare Festival in Mississippi and the Cheap Theatre in Minneapolis. Her plays have been produced or developed by nationally renowned theatres such as the Cherry Lane in New York.

New this season, Atlantic Stage is donating all ticket proceeds from each productions opening night to a local charity. All proceeds from Oct. 14 will benefit the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina.

The complete performance schedule is as follows:

Week 1: Thursday, Oct. 13 Saturday, Oct.15, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct 16, 3 p.m.

Week 2: Thursday, Oct. 20 Saturday, Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct 23, 3 p.m.

Week 3: Thursday, Oct. 27 Saturday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct 30, 3 p.m.

Single tickets range from $5-$25 at the door. Discounts are available for students, seniors (55+), the military and groups.
