Faculty recital is rescheduled for Nov. 30

November 20, 2012

Coastal Carolina University will host its annual faculty recital as a part of the Coastal Honor Band and Scholarship Festival on Friday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event was originally scheduled for Dec. 1, but has been changed to accommodate marching band participation in the second round of the FCS playoffs at Old Dominion University.

The concert is open to the public, and a ticket is required. Admission is free to Coastal Honor Band participants.

Music from the Renaissance period through the 21st century will be featured. Faculty will be performing solos, duets and a sextet. Amy Tully, an assistant professor of music, will perform "Cantabile and Presto" by Georges Enesco on the flute. Christopher Connolly, a teaching associate of music, will perform "Concerto for Trombone" by Lars-Erik Larsson. Josh Frans, a teaching associate of music, will perform "Prelude #2" by Michael Burritt on the marimba.

The faculty sextet is comprised of Connolly on the trombone; Dan O'Reilly, a lecturer of music, on the saxophone; Matt White, assistant professor of music, on the trumpet; Marc Chesanow, teaching associate of music, on the bass; Bill Hamilton, professor emeritus of music, on the piano; and Jesse Willis, assistant professor of music, will play percussion.

The Coastal Honor Band and Scholarship Festival is a three-day event held annually on CCU's campus. Local youth, grades 8 through 12, are invited by CCU faculty, guest clinicians and guest conductors and placed by audition in the Festival Wind Ensemble or the Coastal Honor Band. Selected seniors also have the opportunity to receive college scholarships.

Tickets may be purchased from the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS, or prior to the performance. The box office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. General admission is $9; seniors and alumni, $7; teens, CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students and faculty, $3 (with valid ID); and children (10 and under) are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
