Campus Salvage Sale set for May 18 at CCU

Coastal Carolina University will hold its annual Campus Salvage community sale on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the PODS parking lot located at 370 Allied Drive in the University's Atlantic Center in Conway.

The sale, organized by CCU's Sustainability Initiative, will offer items that have been left behind or donated by students, faculty and staff at the end of the academic year. Items typically for sale include furniture, home decor, kitchenware, electronics and sporting equipment. All items will be sold as is. Payment methods include cash or checks only.

"The Campus Salvage program is a great way to save good items from getting thrown away and going to the landfill," said CCU student and Eco-Rep Coordinator Maria Ferio. "The Eco-Reps volunteer every year to help students make good choices about their stuff and help out the local community."

During Finals Week, May 6-10, PODS storage units are placed around campus for those who would like to donate unwanted items, including nonperishable food and cleaning products. More than half the collected items are given to local charities and organizations, such as the CCU Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Fostering Hope, Street Reach, Goodwill and many others. The remainder of the items are sold at the community sale. Proceeds benefit the CCU Student Green Fund, a program that helps fund various "green" projects around campus.

For those interested in donating items, the PODS units will be located near the residence halls and in University Place. Donations will be accepted Monday, May 6 until Sunday, May 12.
