Symphonic and Jazz band recital to be held at CCU
The Symphonic Band and Coastal Winds will play a variety of compositions such as Sousa’s “The Washington Post March”; Benedict and Clark’s “Carnival of Venice,” featuring CCU student Zach Douglas on the trumpet; and Sousa and Brion’s “I’ve Made My Plans for the Summer,” featuring soprano Courtney Pendleton.
The Jazz After Hours Big Band will also perform a selection of jazz standards such as Count Basie’s “One O’Clock Jump,” Joe Garland’s “In the Mood” and Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the ‘A’ Train.”
Sousa combined classical music and popular music with his own pieces to create a distinctive American sound that traveled all around the world. Sousa composed 136 military marches and a few operettas as well.
Miller created one of the world’s greatest big bands for both concert and swing dance engagements. The Glenn Miller Orchestra is known for its unique jazz sound and its great repertoire of songs.
Ticket prices are $5 for general admission; $3 for CCU/HGTC students, faculty and staff; children are free when accompanied by an adult.
