Lifelong Learning Society names Volunteer of the Year
Cartisano, who retired from Lucent Technologies after 28 years of service, has served as president of the LLS Advisory Board for the past two years and has been instrumental in the continued development of the organization.
Other LLS members recognized at the annual Volunteer Reception were Caroline Ewing of Loris, who received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for her work with the LLS and Elderhostel program, and Carol Graham and Nena Johnson, who received Volunteer Appreciation Awards for their work with the Coastal Youth Academy.
The program received the National Model Program Award for 1999 from the Network for Older Adult Learners of the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE).
Coastal's Lifelong Learning Society has more than 600 members and offers more than 130 courses and workshops each semester on subjects ranging from computers and new technology to art, literature, local history, finance and creative writing.
Fall semester classes for the Lifelong Learning Society begin Monday, Sept. 16. Classes are held at Coastal's Conway campus and at LLS extension sites in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and on the South Strand.
