Policy on Eligibility for Services
The following criteria will be used in deciding if someone is eligible to receive therapeutic services (personal or vocational counseling) at Coastal Carolina University Counseling Services:
1. Students who are currently registered for credit in one or more courses.
2. Individuals who have been enrolled as students of the University during the spring semester and have registered for classes in the next fall semester.
3. Spouses or "significant others" of clients who are being seen in the Counseling Services when the significant other is being seen in conjunction with the enrolled student.
4. Faculty and staff of the University may be seen for one time crisis-intervention or emergency session and a referral for professional services outside the University will be made.
5. Services provided do not include expert evaluation and testimony in a legal proceeding, or service provision in areas of expertise beyond the scope of competent practice or service mission. Such students will be referred to appropriate specialists. For example, students anticipating or requesting an expert opinion so as to support a legal claim or suit will be referred outside of the University to practitioners specializing in the forensic issues of concern.
Questions regarding this policy can be directed to the counselor to which you are assigned or Jennie Cassidy, Director of Counseling Services at (843) 349-2305.
