Kevin Hanrahan (tenor) will perform a recital featuring
the works of Schumann, Barber, Honnegar and Mozart. He has performed
nationally and internationally in opera, oratorio and recital performances.
Some favorite roles have been Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando
in Così fan tutte
and Harold Hill in The Music Man. He has performed the Mozart Requiem,
Bach’s Magnificat, Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Hanrahan is an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

The Coastal Winds, a small group of the University’s finest wind and
percussion players, comprises students of all majors performing a varied
repertoire. These delightful pieces are derived from the various masterworks
from all styles and periods and are for mixed instrumentation ranging in
numbers of five to 25 musicians. The composers of this genre include such
luminaries as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Poulenc and Stravinsky.

The Coastal Carolina University Choirs, under the direction
of Terri Sinclair, and the Percussion Ensembles, under the direction
of Kurry Seymour, perform works written by composer Meira Warshauer,
the 2009-2010 Nancy A. Smith Distinguished Visitor in Residence for
the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Warshauer’s work
reflects a love and respect for the earth. Her music mirrors her
own spiritual journey and speaks directly to the heart and soul of
her listeners.

Music faculty members Amy Hardison Tully (flute) and
Philip Powell (piano) present a recital celebrating the 200th birthday
anniversary of composers Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) and Robert Schumann
(1810-1856). The program will feature works for flute and piano by
these monumental composers and will include a few works by their
Romantic contemporaries.

The Coastal Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE) is an auditioned
group of students in grades 8-12 from throughout the North and South
Carolina area. They perform some of the most well-known compositions
for wind band. Financial assistance awards for students who will
be attending Coastal Carolina University in fall 2010 will be presented
at this program.

Recycled Percussion started as an underground sensation to become one of
the most powerful touring shows in the U.S. Hard-rock drumming led by
Justin Spencer and intoxicating hip-hop funk grooves spun by "DJ Pharaoh"
create music that is sophisticated and technical in construction, mesmerizing
in execution, and a fist-pumping thrill to experience. Performing on everything
from their signature "trash" kits, including plastic buckets, huge ladders,
mortar casings and giant 50 gallon containers, the band keeps the audience
on its feet through 80 minutes of spark-emitting, power-driven drumming.
