Farewell Pegasus!
Pegasus
served us well for many years at Coastal. The time has come, however,
to bid our favorite horse goodbye! System upgrades over the past
several years have made it necessary for users to switch to Outlook,
Outlook Express and IMP (Internet based client software). On FEBRUARY
14 Pegasus will be removed from the administrative server
and will no longer be available for use. Users' e-mail will not be
compromised nor messages lost! The removal of Pegasus from the server
will simply mean another software application will have to be used
in order to access mail. If you have not switched to Outlook or Outlook
Express contact your Information
Resource Consultant for assistance. To view a short presentation
on setting up your e-mail in Outlook Express click HERE.

SEDUG Conference
Again a Success
For
the fourth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University hosted the
annual SEDUG (South East Datatel Users Group) conference held November
13 -15 at the Crown Reef Resort in Myrtle Beach. This year's event
was attended by over four hundred Datatel users and IT professionals
representing fifty universities in the southeast. Coastal had twenty-five
representatives from various departments and several staff served
as presenters at the event. The conference spanned a three day period
during which seventy-five sessions were conducted. Attendees also
had the opportunity to meet with the eighteen vendors who set up
booths at the show. The conference has gained such popularity that
attendance was limited this year due to the facility limitations.
Plans for next year's event include moving the venue to the Myrtle
Beach Convention Center. To learn more about the SEDUG conference
visit the official web site hosted by Coastal at South
East Datatel Users Group Conference.

ITS
Changes
The
year 2002 brought many changes to the Information Technology Services
department. In April 2002 the Student
Computing Services group was welcomed to ITS. This area is responsible
for most computer labs on campus as well as network access from the
residence halls. The CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) Laboratory
provides assistance to students, faculty, and staff who need help
with computer projects. In September 2002 ITS bid farewell to the
Media Services group. The Division
of Media Services is now a part of University Relations and they
are located in Hampton Hall. The last big change to the ITS department
was the movement of the campus switchboard to the Division
of Public Safety. The main campus switchboard is now located
in Atheneum Hall. The installation and maintenance of campus telephones
is still a function of Network Services in ITS.
